German

Boys begin learning German in the Upper school with the aim of encouraging a positive attitude to foreign language learning and to develop their ability to use the language for practical communication. It is also aimed at helping pupils to gain sympathetic insights into the culture of the countries where the language is spoken.

Topics include colours, numbers, days of the week, months, introducing oneself, courtesy phrases, short conversations, food, family and German customs and traditions throughout the year. Boys also enjoy discussing topical events such as the World Cup.
